We have now only 14 days left in cold wet Denmark… – Then Mexico is calling!
I have just finished our plans and bookings of the hotels on our way… hotel search engines booking.com and hotels.com have been very good buddies in the last couple of weeks. All our hotels are booked at these sites. I have researched a lot for every hotel – location, offerings and everything fits the price, which also is very important to us.
14 days on a beach are absolutely NOT me – I want experiences, adventures and love small sneaky places to eat and come close to the locals. I have been in Mexico before and have seen Isla Holbox, Merida and Palenque, so we have skipped these nice places and put in some others.
We have decided to visit – Isla Mujeres, Valladolid, San Cristobal and Tulum.
Yes, we do know that San Cristobal is located in Chiapas, which is an 20 hour bus drive from Yucatan – but we want the adventure.
Hopefully we will arrive in Cancun International Airport in the evening on the 4th of March and then we go directly to Isla Mujeres for 2 nights.
Is our base to see Chichen Itza and be enchanted by the many beautiful cenotes. We will have 2 nights in Valladolid.
From Valladolid we will in the morning take a bus to Merida, have a sightseeing day in Merida and take the 20-hour bus to San Cristobal in the evening.
Does any of my wonderful readers know, if there is a luggage lockers at the bus station in Merida ?
Otherwise, we must bring our luggage on our sightseeing – this will not bring us down 🙂
Next morning we will arrive in San Cristobal exhausted and tired and take a day to see the city. We will stay 4 nights here in the mountains, to see Palenque ruins, waterfalls Misol-Ha and Agua Azul, Sumedero Canyon and if possible to take the exciting jungle trip to Yaxchilan ruins near the Guatemalan border.
From San Cristobal we will in the evening, again take a 18-hour bus-trip from San Cristobal to Tulum.
Next morning we will be arriving in Tulum and from there take a taxi to our final destination, Xpu-Ha, where we will be staying for 4 nights.
This is the time to relax, scuba diving with sea turtles, relax, see the Tulum ruins, relax, swimming in cenotes and relax some more.
Our transportation around will be in buses and taxis. I have visited ADO´s homepage and think it will be easy to book some tickets – maybe the Spanish will be a challenge, but we´ll take it.
This trip will be my boyfriend´s very first time outside Europe – so it´s gonna be big and of course I want to show him all the fun, the beautifulness and to give him the adventurous desire to experience more with me.
Have you some sightseeing, restaurant, shops or anything else you think we should see/visit, we will appreciate your recommendations a lot.
Looking forward to hearing from you 🙂
